You say you are going a peaceful campaign, but it is not true: you're endangering people who are speaking and acting for those who elected them.

    1. I politely disagree. In no aspect of my mind are we outlaws or criminals in any way. If a wrong done remains dressed, shall we let it remain that way or undress it and do something about it. Think, is it right to take our freedom or our right to peacefully protest by pepper spraying us? Or running us out with weapons? We do what is needed to be done. We act. We save the people. We fight for the world.

  8. The government campaign against Julian Assange is the same as the Chinese Governments campaign against Liu Xiaobo. The difference is, Western Govt.s are calling Assange a 'terrorist'...oh hang on, that's no different is it. Umm, oh yeah, Liu is conspiring against the government...mmmm... no...damn, it IS the same...crikey, are we really being ruled by pseudo-dictators? Nooooo, we're free westerners! That's not possible, is it?

  11. I love the sentiment and what you guys are doing, but freedom is sometime not knowing. With much knowledge comes much sorrow, there are certain things that need to be cencored. I could incite murder under the auspices of freedom of speech damaging peoples lives and creating much sorrow. On my country when hate speech is spoken over the television people with weak minds go and carry out those actions and feel justified in doing so. I admire what is happening with the leaks being released, but somehow there is going to have to be a governing of information to make it safe for the people in the world. I think the problem is not censorship as opposed to what is being censored, and unfortunately the heart of humanity is such that there will always be an imbalance in the flow of information. It still remains to see what the consequences of the leak will be, I predict alot of good mixed in with alot of bad, same shit different circumstances.

  12. Against that? No, we'll run, and we'll live.

Aye, fight and you may die, run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willing to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take...our freedom!

  36. Your very name echoes the hypocrisy in what you are doing; everyone deserves a right to privacy. The speakers of things said between two people in private, government or otherwise, have the right to be considered private - without that right, you challenge the very idea that even thought should be exposed to the public.

Your name, "Anonymous", is a term used to remain unidentified - to remain private. Yet in attacking companies and others... supporting those who would expose the private conversations of others... you strip away the benefit of that concept; the right of others to have that privacy. I wonder how YOU might feel if your private conversations - your private information - was broadcast to the world?

There is a term for what "you" are - a bully. A bully operating under the artificial guise of righteousness... you throw out haughty words and famous quotes in an attempt to elevate yourself above the petty thugs that you really are.

The concept of Freedom of Speech is a noble and just cause; what you are doing crosses the line - you're violating others rights because you believe someone else's rights have been violated. You are like those who murder Doctors to prevent abortions - contradictions IN TOTO.

You MUST know - ultimately, your actions will serve no useful purpose; find another way to make your point.

  38. That's some transparently specious nonsense, wrastle123. Hope you don't think anyone is silly enough to fall for your tired old tactics.

You are wrong, wrastle. You are false. The corporations and the governments operating on their behalf are NOT individuals....They do NOT have "rights" (or, rather, they only have the 'rights' we decide to grant them). The myth of corporate/governmental personhood is just that - a myth. You attempt to defend the REAL bully by projecting his actions/motives onto his victims, and accusing them of wrongdoing. You are the serf scrambling to defend the lord that placed the yoke around his neck. You are lost.

  39. Wrastle, you are right in your argumentation (and some others who critisise here). I am with you in stating that everyone has the right to keep his conversation private and "Anonymous" should ultimately act in public.

BUT: As you have seen in Mr. Assange's and many other peoples cases, fighting for free speech and speaking out loud is dangerous - even in the western world. That is because you threaten the establishment if you do.

What wikileaks did when releasing the US cables, they did not wholly do different then any other journalist unveiling atrocities or treason on their own people or whatsoever, except they've not removed some personal details. But releasing such a mass of documents is not likely to be ever clean of personal references and if Wikileaks would have done that, they would've been target of allegations censoring themselves. But they cannot afford being called censors, because their ultimate goal is anti-censorship.

Additionally, the attacks carried out by the Anonymous Legion is just. At least from my point of view. That is because what these companies do is to a great extent illegal too. Take Amazon for example: Amazons product suggestions when you log in are illegal in Germany (where I come from). But they don't give a damn because the profits they make by doing this are WAY more than they pay fines for doing it. Same with Facebook. Nearly everything they do is (according to german privacy laws) illegal. But they dont't care. Profit > law. So why should we not fight for our freedom, willing to skip some laws for our profit, which is not monetary but vital to our well being and perhaps our very existence?

Btw: In my country, there is something called "presumtion of innocence". Guess that didn't apply to Wikileaks when everyone pulled the plug?

    Just my two cents.

  41. Many apologies, but this needs better formatting.

You may not think appearances matter, but they do. Just as one bad actor in your group can sully the best of your intentions by bad actions and by association; unreadable formats can lead the unthinking to assume you to be unschooled or illiterate.

I'm going to reformat and post with a link to your site.

I stand beside you in what you are trying to accomplish.

  42. Redacted; On the contrary, I do not believe corporations are "individuals" in the terms you've stated... I make no attempt to justify the abuses of corporations - or even governments - in the name of profit.

But there are innocent victims in the WikiLeaks releases - victims that had nothing to do with those corporations' actions... did not have a say in what those governments chose to do.

I can almost guarantee that you're a young male under or near the age of 20. Trust me, at that age, you haven't had enough experience in the world to really understand it... you can't endanger one group while claiming to protect them from another.

Once again... if you really believe in what you're preaching, find a better way to do it.

  53. 4chan: a large group of idiotic uneducated little pricks, hundreds of american kids with serious social interaction problems, to the point of being misogynistic, racist, xenophobic, and generally misanthropic. Those are your beloved "Internet superheroes". Those are your "army".
It is pitiful, ironic and utterly pathetic, that people from 4chan, who CAN'T confront the real world and hide behind the mask of "Anonymous" are claiming they "fight for freedom". Fuck 4chan and fuck ignorant conspirationists.

By the way: attacking Visa, Mastercard and PayPal because of all the Assagne and WikiLeaks thing is idiotic and doesn't make ANY sense. I mean, what does the mentioned before has to do with WikiLeaks? Nothing at all. So what, then? People doesn't care, because people is ignorant. Panem et circem, that's all I see with this "Anonymous fighting for freedom" bullshit. Why they didn't attacked the US government itself? I told you why: those "anonymous" are nothing more but overweighted socially handicapped kids from the US playing superheroes from their computers, safely sitting their fat asses in their homes. Those are your heroes, people, nothing more.

    I laugh at you, idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Phil Swaim, the attacks on MasterCard, Visa and the likes were commenced precisely because they denied us the freedom to support WikiLeaks website. Also, AFAIK, the services weren't actually affected by the attack, only the websites, so it's "sorta" OK.

As to the whole thing... My favorite quote is "i might not agree with what you say, but i will defend to death your right to say it".

The truth is, government doesn't need well-educated, critical thinking people. Because we don't buy that bullshit about war on terrorism and all the other stuff governments are doing. DDoS attacks are a good way to attain public attention, because even if 1% of those people who hear about this express interest in what you guys are doing and eventually join you - this will be one of those small victories that will lead to epic win.

So while i don't endorse DDoS attacks in general, this particular case isn't really harming anyone but rather tries to attract attention to the malpractices of said corporations.

  56. Thank you. I support all those who support freedom of speech and a free internet. Anon, you are the only ones who seem to be making a difference right now, by getting the attention of these corporations who are doing the bidding of governments who seek to oppress the people and hush the truth. Again, thankyou.

    ReplyDelete
  57. @WTO BLOGGER I will defend your right to say it too.

By the way, Scientology, MPAA, and RIAA DDoS was awesome!

I just believe there is a line drawn when you start messing with businesses. It does indeed affect other innocent users of the internet. I believe it sends a mixed message to the public. "We believe in the right to free speech, but we are going to deny your right to free speech in the process."

I do respect Anonops for not attacking facebook and twitter. Those are major communications channels. Besides, many operatives are using their FB accounts to update people on the progress of anonops.

Government does need critical thinking people. Everything needs critical thinking people. Education is a matter of perspective. Education by practice or by book. Practice is indeed better. I believe liberals focus too much on book education rather than practiced education.

This holds true especially with hacking. it requires a serious, critical thinking, practical approach to solve problems.

Oh, one last thought. I hope they fire their CSO for Visa, Paypal, et al. DDoS is so easy to prevent that large corporations have no excuse to make that their websites were down.

@Anarel If it's americans who are attacking these sites, then why was a 16yo dutch boy arrested in europe? Why are there so many german groups involved? I have no idea how many people and how many different geological locations are included in this attack. I am not. I don't plan on going to jail, but I will say I am enjoying the show. It gives me a little bit to report to my audience.

4chan is definitely not just teenagers. most are probably 20somethings. it's too much surreal humor for me to handle. I cannot speak to their technical abilites. They are just using LOIC to attack. it's DDoS. THe most simple of exploits on a system.

To attack governments more directly would take a greater amount of effort and even far greater to not ever get caught. NSA is not someone you want tracking you down. It means a gun in the face at some point.

wrastle123: While i appreciate it's measured (and delightfully patronizing) tone, your reply was drenched in specious reasoning and an absurdly superficial understanding of the dynamic at work.

You claim that you do not attempt to justify the abuses of corporations or governments, yet you parrot their lies and propaganda. Your basic assertion is false, and the logic behind it faulty. Fact: There is absolutely no evidence that their are "innocent victims" of the infodump. None. On the other hand, the actions revealed by wikileaks have laid bare the most obscene abuses possible - from cover-up, to murder, to the wholesale purchase of foreign governments by corporate entities (see today's Guardian, for example)....Death squads, rape, intimidation on a massive scale ....crimes too numerous to recount - many (if not most) protected under the color of law. That is fact. That we know. Yet you come here and claim that it is WIKILEAKS that should hang it's head? Based on absolutely nothing factual whatsoever, you think that the mere POSSIBILITY that someone, somewhere, might be in some way inconvenienced by the leaks, is enough to outweigh the value of shedding light on enough criminal, murderous behavior to keep a gross of prosecutors busy for the rest of their lives?

That is nonsense. That is irresponsibly, transparently, shallow thinking. Whether it is an intentional attempt to spread dissent among allies, or simply the product of a lazy mind, i can't pretend to know.....But it's crap either way. Crap.

For those who are sincere in their concern for others, it is worth remembering that wikileaks have released LESS THAN 1% of the State Department cables in their possession. Less than 1%. That is the DEFINITION of discretion.

Do you believe in the right to self-defense? The right to defend the innocent? If you came upon a child being strangled by a man on the street, would you consider yourself a murderer (a legal term, not a moral one) if you cracked his skull open with a brick to prevent the child's death? If that same child were dying of a curable disease, what would you call yourself if you took steps to stop the corporation that purchased the legislator that railroaded through the legislation that protected the system of for-profit medicine? Is the child's life less valuable because the implement of murder was printed paper instead of a strangulation? We fight to protect that child on a massive scale....To break the choke-hold that artificial for-profit entities have on the advancement of human civilization. Generation after generation they fight to the death - no holds barred - and you seem to suggest that we should fight with pleasantries and 'please sir, may i?'s'. I do not promote violence, but i DO promote the RECOGNITION of violence in ALL forms.

And, as if it matters, I am not a child. I am a 41 year old American who is absolutely sick to death of the feudal system under which my brothers and sisters and i live. I am sick to death of poorly informed people pontificating on the state of the world when they have an absolutely childlike understanding of the 'political' systems in place. I am sick of lies, corporate power, and the exploitation of my fellow humans. I am sick of being on the business end of the wealthy elite's myriad schemes, and i am sick of their ongoing class war against the vast majority of the human population. I am sick of continually having to respond to laughable corporate-propaganda-as-'news' coming from laughable buffoons ("Anarel Haeran" above is a perfect example) before the REAL issues can even BEGIN to be addressed.

I won't live to see real, substantive change - but to my dying day i stand in full solidarity with any who seek it. I stand in full solidarity with any who stand in the road, and refuse to let the tank pass. I stand with humans. I stand with the truth. And I stand with wikileaks and their defenders.

Crap.

I applaud Wikileaks and all the folk that keep Wikileaks alive. Remember, this is not just about Julian, it is about the freedom to disseminate information that we as the rulers of the governments have a right to know.
WE employ people to run our countries. They do not have the right to hide information from us.

Don't your enemies deserve the freedom of expression you say you are standing for?

Anonymous is just a bunch of kids looking for attention. If they had half a brain then they'd figure stuff through and research the topic before even picking a side. Bet these kids have no idea why, for example, John Young left Wikileaks in 2007.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Everyone keeps bringing up the same argument - if they are for freedom, why do the deny freedom for government to screw us over. Brilliant thinking guys. The truth is, the limit to one's freedom is another man's freedom - and it works both ways. If their freedom is violated - they act. If ours is violated - shouldn't we act too?

    ReplyDelete
  78. Not to mention all this stuff sadly hides the real story - crimes of governments. Countless unnecessary deaths, unwarranted tortures, spying on people, bribing officials and all that other stuff that was revealed. I could care less what US diplomats think of foreign leaders (although the part about Saudi asking USA to bomb Iran was hilarious), but these other facts are worth investigating into - and instead it's WikiLeaks who is investigated and prosecuted. Because, apparently, if government does it - then it's somehow OK.

  85. Redacted; that's all the biggest concentration of bullshit I've heard so far. You're sounding bordering delusional in trying to put any of what Assange does on par with stopping a murder in progress.

Firstly, I need to establish this - Assange is no journalist. He's an egotistical ATTENTION WHORE. A REAL journalist would have redacted; would have released REAL information exposing the wrongdoings of corporations and/or governments and been more responsible in the manner in which he released them. By releasing diplomatic cables - ANY OF THEM - he further proves that he's just looking for attention. Pfizer fucking around? Great! Tell the world! But what the hell good could come from releasing private conversations between diplomats? Diplomats who's very job it is to try to SMOOTH things over and IMPROVE relations between countries?

So in that regard, trying to do all of this in the name of Free Speech is a feeble attempt at best to justify what you're encouraging.

I have news for you, we're ALL sick of the atrocities being committed every day by big corporations and by sleezy governments... and I acknowledge your frustration and your eagerness to set things right. Bravo! But if you really are 41, then by this time you should have established better morals for yourself and have a better understanding of HOW to channel that energy into a more productive protest. Form a legitimate group, create a web presence, promote awareness through the new handy social media tools at our disposal, and I'll gladly be the first person on your list. March on Washington, I'll be right next to you... but are you really deluding yourself into thinking DoS attacks are going to "raise awareness" of the situation? They do nothing but provide fodder for the Fox Newses of the world to further advance the ignorance of the complacent masses and degrade the legitimacy of the original cause.

Worse further still, by inciting thousands of other people - people you don't know and don't know what they're capable of - KIDS who don't have a firm grasp of the situation at hand - to contribute to the DoS attacks, you further the ignorance of future generations and erode their ability to evolve into people that can more effectively cooperate to make the world a better place.

Don't kid yourself, and don't equate yourself to the man who stood in front of a tank in Tiananmen Square. Remotely inciting attacks on websites is far from courageous... but mostly unproductive. Certainly not revolutionary.

I've wasted enough time here, I'm off. I wish you the best of luck, and hope that you can eventually come around and realize that there IS a better way.

Look who owns them, look who funds them. And while your at it, look and see who has funded all the wars for several hundred years. Control is the name of their game, along with money and power of course. The major bankers want to control us and shut us down. I mean look at the Federal Reserve. They are ripping us off. A privately held institution with the name Federal to make us think its ok? Do you think these guys want the people to have a voice? Can you do something about BofA's tyranny? The economy is shitty, I've been struggling to make my mortgage payments, but still making them. Missed last month's, but will call it in later today, after depositing some funds into my account. That doesn't matter to them, they sent me an "Intent to Accelerate" notice. Which means, even when I get caught up with last month's payment, and late fee, if I can't pay this month's before the end of the month, they will begin foreclosure proceedings.

This seems patently unfair to me. After all, I am making my payments, right? I'm not looking for a handout. I know of people who have been nine months behind on their mortgage, and still kept their houses, why are they doing this to me when I'm only one month behind? Could it be because I can't afford to hire a lawyer?

    Please help?

I'm the first to say, I'm all for freedom of speech and information, I am not, however, for the freedom of speech that is harmful, degrading, racist or envokes harm to others.

The Internet is the same. Sometimes you read awful things, but that's just one person in a world of many. Let them blow off their steam. Big Deal.

More important keep the information flowing. Why the paranoia?

    * We are already being filtered on the Internet in the United States and have been for a long time.

So what does that say about us? Hmmm that we are too dumb to judge for ourselves if that's something that we want to read? That definitely makes me feel capable ...

  136. Living in the reality of lies, one must dictate upon personal values. the man that revealed valuable data from the military to wikileaks should only be punished because he was under the jurisdiction of the military. to compromise ones life is a choice that should be made under ones own preferences. however when one risks the lives of many unknowing people is an act that is shameful, however the purpose is noble. when one is in the employment of the military, civic rights are no longer, to combat a common misconception. however this group is perfect for everything because of the lack of leadership and the commitment to global good through the checks and balances through natural social interaction. i am very curious about the future of this cause..
